Confidence guide

Confidence classes indicate source-product classification, not independent confirmation of a fire incident.

Harmonised classes

Low
Lower-confidence thermal anomalies retained by the governed product. They can be useful for inspection but have a higher risk of false detections or ambiguous heat sources.
Nominal
Routine detections meeting the governed nominal classification.
High
Detections assigned to the governed high-confidence class.

Mode defaults

Near-real-time mode initially displays nominal and high confidence while keeping low confidence available as an explicit opt-in. Historical mode initially includes low, nominal and high confidence. Resetting filters restores the defaults for the active mode.

What confidence does not mean

A high-confidence active-fire detection is still a satellite-observed thermal anomaly at a pixel centre. It is not independent confirmation that the anomaly is a wildfire, not a mapped boundary and not a burned-area measurement. Confidence should be considered alongside source availability, cloud, overpass timing, land use and other evidence.
