Data guide

How to read the governed fields without treating detection counts as counts of distinct fires.

Sensors and platforms

MODIS observations are reported separately for Terra and Aqua. VIIRS observations are reported for Suomi-NPP. The instruments differ in spatial resolution, overpass timing and detection characteristics, so their counts are not interchangeable measures of distinct fires.

Displayed fields

Acquisition UTC
The satellite observation time in Coordinated Universal Time.
FRP
Fire radiative power in megawatts when supplied by the source product; missing values remain unavailable.
Brightness
Brightness temperature in kelvin when supplied.
Day/night
The source product's day or night classification.
District and agro-climatic zone
Governed assignments made before browser publication.
Coordinates
Longitude and latitude of the detected-pixel centre, not a perimeter.

Map symbols

Terra MODIS uses an orange circle, Aqua MODIS an amber triangle and Suomi-NPP VIIRS a red diamond. Shape as well as colour distinguishes platforms. Low-zoom clusters show the number of displayed detections represented at that map location and zoom.

Historical and near-real-time records

Near-real-time observations support current operational inspection and may later differ from standard processed historical data. Historical and near-real-time modes therefore retain separate release identities, source-status information and defaults.

Downloads

CSV and GeoJSON downloads contain only the current filtered records. Null measurements are left neutral rather than reconstructed. GeoJSON coordinates use the standard [longitude, latitude] order. See the download and privacy guide for the full public-field schema.
